Abstract

The ability to read in early childhood plays an important role in the development of early literacy. Effective learning methods are needed to improve reading skills, one of which is through the use of the Smart Box game. This study aims to examine the effect of the Smart Box game on the reading ability of young children. This study used a quasi-experimental design with an unequal control group design. A total of 20 students from Dharma Wanita 01 Kindergarten were divided into an experimental group (10 children) who received the Smart Box game and a control group (10 children) who did not receive treatment. The measurement instruments include pre-test and post-test using a behavioral checklist. The results of the wilcoxon analysis showed that the experimental group experienced a significant increase in reading ability (p = 0.005), while the control group did not experience a significant change (p
= 0.852). The mann-whitney test results showed a significant difference between the post-test scores of the experimental and control groups (p = 0.001). The use of the Smart Box game significantly improves the reading ability of young children. This research provides evidence that this approach can be effectively increased learning interest in early childhood learning contexts.
