Abstract

This study aims to investigate the perceptions of teachers regarding the use of ChatGPT (Generative Pre-trained Transformer) in learning English at SMP Islam Duduksampeyan Gresik. The study focuses on teachers' perceptions on the benefits, challenges, and ethical considerations associated with integrating ChatGPT into educational settings. The research is based on a descriptive qualitative method, which is used to collect data from teachers at SMP Islam Duduksampeyan Gresik. The findings of this study will provide valuable insights for educational stakeholders, policymakers, and researchers interested in using AI-based chatbots in education. Teachers fear that both educators and students might become overly reliant on chat GPT for completing daily tasks, which could undermine the development of critical
thinking, problem-solving abilities, and language skills in students.
