Abstract

This research wants to discuss the Philippines' Deradicalization Policy in Efforts to Deal with the ISIS Movement in Marawi. Marawi is a city in the Mindanao Islands of the Southern Philippines which was previously known as Dansalan. This city is the capital of the province of Lanao del Sur on Mindanao Island which is part of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM). This research analyzes the policies or efforts produced by the Philippines in dealing with the ISIS movement in Marawi. In order to overcome the threat of ISIS in the Philippines and countries in the Southeast Asia region, cooperation is carried out because it is very important for each country to be active in resolving this issue. Radicalism is an understanding that requires change, replacement and the breaking down of a social sistem down to its roots. Radicalism wants total change in a condition or all aspects of society's life. Deradicalization is all efforts to transform from radical beliefs or ideologies to non-radical ones with a multi- and interdisciplinary approach (religious, social, cultural and other) for people affected by radical beliefs. On that basis, deradicalization is more about efforts to make cognitive changes or moderate one's thoughts or beliefs. In writing this article, the author used descriptive qualitative research methods. Where data collection uses literature studies in the form of journals, books or articles related to the research topic. The research results show that the Philippines' deradicalization policy in its efforts to deal with ISIS is not only regional, because the country needs help from other countries, such as the United States and Australia. During the Marawi battle, the United States and Australia sent their troops to help Philippine troops fight the militants. The deployment of troops by the two countries to the southern Philippines is a form of alliance between countries by deploying Filipino armed forces who have been given the skills to fight terrorist groups. This form of cooperation takes the form of providing military training such as assistance with tactics and strategies to fight ASG and the Maute Clan.
