Abstract

Desertion is a military crime that is often committed within the Indonesian National Army, where soldiers often leave the unit without a valid reason and without permission from their superiors in times of peace or war. This research is include in the type of sociological jurudical research which aims to obtain legal knowledge empirically by going directly into the object of the research. Based on primary data taken by researchers, it shows that the number of cases of criminal acts of desertion committed by Indonesian National Army soldiers in the jurisdiction of Military Police Detachment V/3 Malang in 2022 there were 25 cases and in 2023 there were 17 cases of criminal acts of desertion. The large number of criminal cases of desertion committed by Indonesian National Army Soldiers is caused by several factors, including economic factors, involvement in extramarital affairs, and psychological factors. Based on the factors causing the high crime of desertion in the jurisdiction of Military Police Detachment V/3 Malang, efforts can be made to overcome the crime of desertion by supervising Indonesian National Army soldiers and their families, conducting outreach to Indonesian National Army soldiers together with Kumrem 083/BDJ, strengthen good relations with the Republic of Indonesia Police and carry out joint patrols, and provide mental development for Indonesian National Army soldiers.
