DAMPAK RASISME SISTEMIK DI PRANCIS TERHADAP KASUS PENEMBAKAN NAHEL MERZOUK

The actions of police officers attempting to secure a 17-year-old youth named Nahel Merzouk resulted in a police shooting that ultimately led to the youth's death. This action is considered an extrajudicial killing. This case also serves as evidence of systemic racism in French policies. This study aims to explain why French policies have a tendency towards systemic racism, which ultimately led to Nahel Merzouk's death. This study uses a qualitative research method and employs the theory of ethnocentrism to explain the background of systemic racism in France. The results of this study indicate that systemic racism in France originates from the lack of official recognition of ethnicity and race in French policies and also from the legacies of French colonialism, such as the mission civilicatrice. Systemic racism also leads to the occurrence of extrajudicial killings in France. Systemic racism is also become the cause of Paris riots in June 2023. CERD suggest that France Government need to adress the sytemic racism and discrimination that exist in law enforcement in France. In response, France government denied the accusation and says that it is unfounded.
