Abstract

This research aims to analyze Australia's intervention efforts as a Great Power towards Fiji after the 2006 military coup. The research method used is explanatory research, the concepts the author uses as analytical tools are the Great Power Concept and Intervention Theory, this study explores the motivation and impact of actions Australia in the context of regional politics and security in the South Pacific. Through a qualitative approach and secondary data analysis, this research finds that Australia's intervention aims to restore political stability and promote democracy in Fiji, while strengthening its influence in the region. The results show that although Australia's intervention efforts faced significant challenges, particularly domestic resistance in Fiji and the complexity of local political dynamics, the intervention was successful in bringing about some positive changes in the long term. Several interventions carried out by Australia against Fiji took the form of sanctions limiting bilateral relations, suspension of Fiji's aid, suspension of Fiji's membership of the PIF, as well as diplomatic and economic sanctions, development assistance, and support for democratic reform in Fiji.
