Abstract

Anxiety is a diffuse and vague fear associated with feelings of uncertainty, helplessness, feelings of isolation, alienation, and unrest. Anxiety in students when completing a thesis can arise due to low academic self-efficacy. Students with low academic self-efficacy can experience difficulties in completing their thesis. This social support has benefits that can help individuals overcome their problems. The purpose of this study was to examine the role of academic self-efficacy as a mediator of the effect of social support on anxiety. This research is quantitative research. The measuring instrument used consists of 3 measuring instruments, namely the Taylor Minnesota Anxiety Scale (TMAS), the Perceived Social Support Scale (MPSS), and the Academic Self-Efficacy Scale (ASES). The sampling technique uses non-probability sampling with the characteristics of the subject of final semester students who are completing their thesis. This study was analyzed using mediated regression, obtained a β value of -1.475 with a 95% confidence interval (CI) ranging from -2.007 to -0.988. The results of this study indicate that academic self-efficacy can act as a mediator of the effect of social support on anxiety.
