Abstract

The reality is that transmigration areas with socio-cultural diversity have a higher conflict intensity compared to homogeneous regions; this problem is then still an issue that continues to surface in the implementation of the transmigration program that the Government of Indonesia has long run, even previous research that has been carried out shows so many cases of conflict that occur in transmigration areas, both between the transmigrant population and the local population and among the transmigrant population itself. Although there are so many cases of conflict in transmigration areas, there are still a few transmigration areas whose residents live in harmony and peace harmony, even though there are various ethnicities and religions in them; one example is the transmigration area located in Banuroja Village, Randangan District, Pohuwato Regency, Gorontalo Province. With Russell and Moffatt's spatial adaptation framework, Usman Pelly's adaptation theory, and Robert K. Merton's adaptation typology theory, this study aims to see how the spatial adaptation patterns are carried out by transmigration residents in Banuroja Village. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study research type. Data sources were obtained through primary and secondary sources, including observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The research subjects were determined using a purposive sampling technique. Furthermore, the data analysis technique uses a case study data analysis model developed by Robert K. Yin, which includes three methods: pattern matching, explanation making, and time series analysis. The results showed that the transmigrant population adapted to the social, cultural, and economic conditions of Banuroja Village through various means, such as building good relationships with each other, respecting the cultural and religious traditions of different ethnicities and religions, and working in agriculture, education, and government to meet their economic needs. It was also found that ethnic and religious associations play an essential role in helping and directing transmigrants to adapt to Banuroja Village.
