Abstract

Background: Coronary heart disease (CHD) is a heart disease caused by narrowing of the coronary arteries. It is a multifactorial disease that is divided into two types of factors: modified factors and non-modified factors. One factor that is often associated with CHD is hypertension.
Objective: This paper aims to determine the effect of hypertension on the severity of coronary heart disease.
Method: This type of literature review is a narrative review by applying a research question (RQ). The RQ formulation is based on PICO (population, intervention, comparison, and outcomes).
Results: A data search was conducted, obtained 21 out of 37 journals that met the inclusion criteria. The results demonstrated that hypertension significantly affects the severity of CHD. Specifically, hypertension can accelerate the progression of atherosclerosis, increase the number of affected coronary arteries, and increase the risk of CHD events.
Conclusion: Based on the analysis of the research journals, it can be concluded that hypertension significantly affects the severity of CHD.
