Abstract
Fifth grade students at SDN Tunggulwulung III, in addition to using the stacking method to make it easier to calculate multiplication, also use the cross-line method to provide new experiences. This research aims to determine the differences between the cross-line and stacking methods on the multiplication abilities of class V students at SDN Tunggulwulung III, Malang City.
This type of research includes quantitative research, the method used in this research is experiment (Quasi Experiment) with Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design. The samples used in this study were fifth grade students of SDN Tunggulwulung III Malang City consisting of class A by applying the cross-line method totaling 14 and class B by applying the stacking method totaling 14. The instrument used in the research was a multiplication ability test in the form of Essay Questions. The data analysis method uses the t-test (Independent Sample T-test) by going through the requirements test, namely the data normality test and the variance homogeneity test.
Based on data analysis using the SPSS 23 program, namely the independent sample T-test with a = 0.05 and the sig value. (2-tailed) obtained is 0.000, indicating that there is a significant difference in the average value between class A applying the cross-line method and class B applying the stacking method after the treatment is given. So H_0 is rejected and H_1 is accepted, meaning that there is a significant difference between the use of cross-line and stacking methods on the multiplication skills of fifth grade students of SDN Tunggulwulung III Malang City. The magnitude of the difference in this research is 2.3 according to the interpretation in Cohen's table, this figure is classified as high. As a result of this research, the cross-line method can be used as a viable option in the learning process of mathematics, especially for the learning process of multiplication material.
