Abstract

Personality is a function that includes thoughts, feelings and behavior. One of the behaviors associated with this personality type is self-injury behavior. Individuals with certain personality types can be indicated to engage in self-injury behavior. The aim of this research is to determine the influence of personality type on the tendency to self-injury behavior in early adulthood. The approach in this research is non-experimental quantitative with a correlational type. The scales used are the Big Five Inventory (BFI) and the Deliberate Self-Harm Inventory (DSHI). The sampling technique used was non-probability purposive sampling with a total of 305 young adults as subjects who had or were currently committing self-injury at least once. Based on the results of the simple linear regression analysis, it is known that there is no influence between the personality of openness to experience and the tendency for self-injurious behavior (p = 0.982; p > 0.05), there is an influence between the personality of conscientiousness and the tendency for self-injurious behavior (p = 0.017; p < 0.05 ), there is no influence between extraversion personality and the tendency for self-injurious behavior to have value (p = 0.410; p > 0.05), there is an influence between agreeableness personality and the tendency for self-injurious behavior to value (p = 0.000; p < 0.05), and there is no The influence between neuroticism personality and the tendency to self-harm behavior is p = 0.075 (p > 0.05).
