Abstract

Choosing a life partner is a process of finding and finding a life partner to be involved in a relationship which then makes the relationship a long-term commitment and ends in marriage. A person's desire to establish a perfect relationship is certainly based on what kind of partner is ideal or desired by someone. The perspective on the fear of being single makes a person want to keep single. The fear of being single is a worry, anxiety, or difficulty regarding the current or future shadow without having a life partner. One factor that can influence preferences in choosing a partner is the fear of being single. The purpose of this study was to determine the influence of fear of being single on preferences in the selection of life partners. The design of this study was quantitative non-experimental involving as many as 260 respondents using sampling techniques with Voluntary Response Sampling techniques. The scale used in this study is the fear being single scale (FBSS) developed by Spielman et al (2013) and the nine mate selection question (NMSC) scale developed by Townsend (2013). Analysis of the data used simple regression and the results of this study showed that there was an influence between fear of being single and preferences in choosing a life partner (r = 0.266, p-value = 0.000). It found the contribution of the influence of fear of being single to partner selection preferences by 19.8% influence the emergence of partner selection preferences.
