Abstract
Non-Suicidal Self-Injury (NSSI) is the act of an individual intentionally and repeatedly injuring their own body tissue without any intention of committing suicide. One of the trigger factors for NSSI is a feeling of loneliness, so emotion regulation is needed in both cognitive reappraisal and expressive suppression dimensions to weaken the relationship between loneliness and NSSI. This study aims to investigate the role of emotion regulation, comprising cognitive reappraisal and expressive suppression dimensions, as moderators in the relationship between loneliness and Non-Suicidal Self-Injury behaviour. The method employed in this study is a non-experimental quantitative approach, with a sample size of 264 undergraduate students exhibiting Non-Suicidal Self-Injury behavior. The Non-Suicidal Self-Injury variable was measured using the Inventory of Statements about Self-Injury (ISAS) instrument, loneliness variable using the UCLA Loneliness Scale, and emotion regulation variable using the Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (ERQ). The sampling technique employed was purposive sampling, utilizing the Process Hayes Model 1 analysis technique. The research findings indicate that emotion regulation, both in the dimensions of cognitive reappraisal and expressive suppression, does not serve as a moderator in the relationship between loneliness and Non-Suicidal Self-Injury behavior.
