Abstract

Background: The American Psychiatric Association (APA) has classified Internet Gaming Disorder (IGD) in the DSM-V as a type of addiction that does not involve addictive substances. It is characterized by long-term, repetitive behavior that can interfere with daily activities, leading to a significant decline in individual productivity. This decline in productivity can disrupt the productive activities of students, leading to anxiety due to their inability to break free from the addiction, which in turn hampers their academic activities and achievements.
Objective: To determine whether there is a correlation between Internet Gaming Disorder (IGD) and anxiety among medical students at Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang.
Methods: This research employed an observational analytic method with a cross-sectional approach, using a questionnaire completed by 89 students. The data were then analyzed using IBM SPSS version 25.0.
Results: The study found a significant correlation between IGD and anxiety (p=0.000) among medical students at Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang.
Conclusion: There was a correlation between Internet Gaming Disorder and anxiety among medical students at Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang, where higher Internet Gaming Disorder scores are associated with higher levels of anxiety among students.
