Abstract
Many individuals volunteer themselves to be away from their parents, family and friends to study far from where they live, even abroad to seek knowledge that they think is more appropriate. As overseas students, they should have the independence to adapt to a foreign place because they have entered the stage of late adolescence towards early adulthood and can be said to be mature enough so that they are not too vulnerable to experiencing loneliness. However, in reality, there are still many new students who experience loneliness due to problems such as the adjustment process, lack of social support and heavy assignments. Therefore, social support is very necessary to reduce feelings of loneliness and allow individuals to adapt to new environments. This research aims to find out how much influence social support has on feelings of loneliness in new students who have migrated to Malang. This research uses a quantitative design with a simple linear regression analysis calculation method with sampling using purposive sampling. The number of samples in this study was 223 people. The scale used to measure social support is the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS), while the scale to measure loneliness is the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA). This research shows the influence of social support on loneliness in new students who have migrated to Malang.
