Abstract
Excessive use of smartphones, especially social media in adolescents, has various negative impacts. Teenagers will feel anxious if they do not know the latest information or are not included in activities carried out by others, this is fear of missing out. Fear of missing out is the fear and worry that arises from missing out on fun moments with others or not being involved in these activities. Fear of missing out is formed due to low satisfaction in psychological needs. One of the factors that influence the emergence of feelings of fear and anxiety due to feeling left behind by what others are doing is motivational factors or unfulfilled psychological needs, one of which is self-esteem. This study aims to determine the relationship between self-esteem and fear of missing out in adolescents. This study used a quantitative approach with accidental sampling technique and a sample size of 281 subjects. The research instruments used were the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES) to measure individual perceptions and the Fear of Missing Out Scale (FoMOS). This study showed no significant relationship between self-esteem and fear of missing out in adolescents.
