Abstract
Gender issues are of course a social problem in all countries, both developed and developing countries. The number of gender biases, sexist violence, and gender-based murders are never-ending issues. Many ways have been taken to combat bias, one of which is the emergence of a new social movement, the #MeToo Movement. The #MeToo movement is a form of new social movement based on social media in fighting sexual violence and harassment. This movement exists throughout the world, one of which is France. The #MeToo movement in its progress was able to bring about quite significant changes in France, but in the middle of its journey, this movement was rejected by French society. This research aims to find out the reasons why French society rejects the #MeToo movement, considering that this movement is so accepted in various countries. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method with literature study collecting secondary data. This research applies the theory of New Social Movements and Cultural Framing. Based on research results, this rejection occurred due to cultural and identity differences that have long been framed between French society and the principles of the #MeToo movement. As well as the treatment of the #MeToo movement which is considered too excessive towards perpetrators of sexual harassment without paying attention to the concept of human rights.
