Abstract

Stress on the increasingly damaged environment can basically raise public awareness to protect the environment (Environmental Awareness), which makes people perceive every need for Green Open Space (RTH). The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of environmental stress on the perception of the need for Green Open Space (RTH) mediated by environmental awareness. The method in this study is a quantitative approach and quota sampling technique, with 250 respondents as research subjects. The division of quotas of 50 respondents each is based on low air quality according to the Air Quality Index (IQAir), namely Bandung, Surabaya, Tangerang, Palembang, Jakarta. This research instrument is the preparation of an environmental stress scale based on the theory of Qin & Li (2021), environmental awareness based on the theory of Lathifah (2018), and the perception of the need for Green Open Space (RTH) based on the theory of Rusmita & Laksamana (2020). The data analysis technique used is multiple linear regression. The results showed an influence where the higher the environmental stress, the higher the perceived need for Green Open Space (RTH), if using environmental awareness as a mediator (p = 0.001 <0.05) with a coefficient of determination of 0.1586.
