Abstract
Women's voter participation in the 2019 general election in Sumenep District is still considered low, this is because the level of white voters (golput) of women voters is very high. Where the number of Permanent Voters List (DPT) of female voters in 2019 amounted to 279,695 but those who used their voting rights were only 239,515, which means that this category of abstention voters reached 40,180 or 14.36%. This figure affects the legitimacy of the resulting government. The high abstention rate of female voters in Sumenep district is caused by low education levels so they tend to be less informed about the importance of elections and how to participate. The purpose of this research is to find out the efforts made by the Sumenep Regency KPU in increasing women's participation in the 2024 elections.
This study uses a qualitative method with a descriptive approach using the theory of political participation Meriam Budiarjo Data collected through observation and interviews and documentation. As well as analyzing the KPU's efforts in conducting socialization as a form of increasing female voter participation in the 2024 elections.
The results of the study showed that the Sumenep Regency General Election Commission (KPU) conducted political socialization in an effort to increase women's participation by conducting socialization involving Youth Organizations (OKP) both HMI, PMII, Higher Education Institutions, and with the Sumenep Regency Women's Group including Fatayat NU and the Great Women's Group. In the 2024 general election the Sumenep District General Election Commission (KPU) succeeded in increasing female voter participation compared to 2019 with an abstention rate of 40,180 while in the 2024 general election the abstention rate in female voters decreased to 21,430. The Sumenep District General Election Commission (KPU) succeeded in increasing female voter participation by 45.68% in the 2024 general election through socialization and cooperation efforts.
