AN ANALYSIS OF SWEARING WORDS USED BY MULLINS AS THE LOUDMOUTH BOSTON POLICE BY PAUL FEIG MOVIE “THE HEAT”

Swearing words is a way to show people's emotions to others when they feel happy, angry, or sad. On the other hand, when they express their emotion, swearing words could have a different understanding from some people's perspective who listen to what is being said. It could have positive or even negative meaning which depends on the context. In everyday life, swearing words are commonly used by people. Another swearing word used could be found in movies, like The Heat movie by Paul Feig.
In this research, the researcher analyzed the use of swearing words by Mullins in The Heat movie. This research aimed to mention the swearing words used, classify the types of swearing words used, and categorize the function of swearing words used. The design of this research used qualitative research with the library research method. Then, the research object involved one of the main characters which called Mullins the loudmouth Boston police in The Heat movie. The instrument here was the researcher herself. The data were collected through observation methods such as watching the movie using a laptop, downloading the script, and reading the dialogue wisely to decide the swearing words used.
The findings of this research was to show the swearing words used, the types, and the functions. There were 239 swearing word used by Mullins in The Heat movie. The following 5 swearing words types that were found, such as dysphemism, idiomatically, abusively, emphatically, and cathartically. Furthermore, 7 swearing word functions that were found, such as conveying anger, conveying hate, conveying disappointment, conveying regret, conveying wonder, conveying insult, conveying intimacy.
