Abstract
Current technological developments have a huge impact on human life. This research focuses on the phenomenon of phubbing behavior in early adulthood, especially in emerging adulthood. The role of Fear of Missing Out is one of the factors that influence individuals to engage in phubbing behavior because someone who is afraid of missing out on information will tend to pay attention to the smartphone rather than the person they are talking to. The aim of this research is to determine the role of FoMO on phubbing behavior in early adulthood, especially in emerging adulthood. This research uses a correlational quantitative method using simple liner regression data analysis and using the Non-Probability Sampling method with accidental sampling techniques. The subjects in this study were 159 people with subject criteria namely (1) aged 18-25 years who used a smartphone, (2) actively used social media (Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, Youtube, Facebook and WhatsApp). The research results show that Fear of Missing Out has a significant influence on Phubbing of Sig: 0.047. The influence of Fear of Missing Out on Phubbing is moderate at 2.5% and 97.5% is caused by other factors outside the variables that were not studied. This shows that FoMO has a significant impact on phubbing behavior. Early adulthood, especially in emerging adulthood, which has a very low level of FoMO, tends to be low in phubbing behavior.
