Abstract

Children with special needs often present unique challenges in daily life, requiring additional attention and support. Understanding how parents handle these specific conditions is crucial. This research aims to examine the cognitive coping strategies of parents with autistic children. The study employs a descriptive quantitative method with 107 parents aged 23-61, selected using purposive sampling. The Cognitive Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (CERQ) adapted into Bahasa Indonesia is utilized, followed by descriptive analysis. Findings indicate that mothers of autistic children employ varied coping strategies. The research findings reveal that the analysis of emotion-focused coping strategies among participants largely exhibits adaptive characteristics, involving a sample size of 86 subjects. The predominant coping strategies identified are positive reappraisal and refocusing on planning. Conversely, the utilization of the other-blame strategy is infrequent. These findings offer potential avenues for further exploration among participants and may contribute to the development of a theoretical model for emotion-focused coping strategies in Indonesia.
