Abstract

Based on previous research, it was found the fact that out of town students show low psychological well-being. Low levels of psychological well-being in out of town students result in feelings of anxiety, depression, dissatisfaction in life, lack of building positive relationships with other people, and experiencing difficulty in accepting themselves. One of the factors that can influence psychological well-being is self-esteem, where high self-esteem can increase self-confidence, feelings of confidence in one's abilities, as well as positive perceptions of one's impact in this world. So in this study, the researcher aims to determine the relationship between self-esteem and psychological well-being in out of town students. Meanwhile, the research approach used is quantitative correlational. In determining the research sample, the researcher used a purposive sampling technique. The criteria are active students who are migrating from various cities, living alone/not living with their family, and aged 18-25 years. The data analysis techniques used in this research are descriptive analysis, normality test, and Spearman correlation test. The research results show that there is a significant positive relationship between self-esteem and psychological well-being (r = 0.680; p = 0.000), which means that the higher the self-esteem, the higher the psychological well-being. Conversely, the lower self-esteem, the lower psychological well-being.
