Abstract
Tempeh waste is the residual result of the tempeh making process which contains various nutrients such as remnants of protein, fat, carbohydrates, as well as microorganisms such as bacteria and yeast which are used in fermenting soybeans into tempeh. Tempe liquid waste can cause water pollution and the surrounding environment. Biocoagulants are one method used in the water treatment process to precipitate solid or colloidal particles contained in water. The biocoagulant used is shrimp shell chitosan which contains chitin as a coagulant in wastewater treatment, helping to agglomerate solid particles that are dispersed in water so that they can be easily deposited. The aim of this research is to determine the effect of shrimp shell waste as a biocoagulant on the quality of tempe liquid waste and whether it is in accordance with the quality standards for liquid waste used as a Biology Learning Resource. The purpose of this research was to determine the effect of shrimp shell waste as biocoagulant to the quality of tempe wastewater used as a source in learning Biology. A kind of this research was True Experimental Research with The Posstest Only Control Group Design as a research design. This experiment design used Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) non factorial. The dose of chitosan used in this research was 0, 150, 200, 250 and 300 mg/L. The parameter used in this research was TSS, pH, BOD and COD value of tempe wastewater after given treatment. Data of this research was analyzed using One Way Anova with accuracy level 0,05. The research results showed that the dose of chitosan had an effect on the pH, COD, BOD and TSS values of tempeh liquid waste. The addition of shrimp shell waste chitosan at a dose of 300 mg/L is the optimal dose in reducing COD, BOD and TSS values with an average of 3135 mg/L, 961 mg/L and 736 mg/L respectively. A dose of 300 mg/L is the optimal dose in increasing the pH value of tofu liquid waste with an average value of 5.8. The value that meets the liquid waste quality standards is the pH value of tempeh liquid waste. The results of this research can be used as a Biology Learning Resource.
