Abstract
Background:Elderlyissomeonewho has reachedtheageof 60 yearsorabove.Thisperiodistheclosingperiodfor a person'slife span, where gradual physicalandpsychologicaldeclineoccurs. One ofthemostcommonhealthproblems in theelderlyisdementia.Dementiais a symptomofdecreasedmemory, thinking, behaviorandabilitytocarryoutdailyactivities. Lossofintellectualcapacity in dementiais not only in memoryorrecollection,butalso in cognitionandpersonality.
Objective:To findoutwhetherbrainexercisescanhelpimprovecognitive status in elderlypeoplewithdementia
Method:Theresearch in this final scientificworkuses a case study report. Researchersfollowedtherulesofthenursingassessmentprocessaccompaniedbyprovidingbrainexerciseswhich were carriedoutfromOctober 4 2022 toOctober 6 2022 toimprovecognitive status as provenbytheassessment.ShortPortable Mental Status Questionnaire(SMPSQ) andMini Mental State Exam(MMSE) beforeandaftergivingbrainexercises.
Results:Brainexerciseforelderlypeoplewithdementiaisconsideredeffective in improvingcognitive status in theelderly. Through a brainexerciseprocesscarriedoutfor 3 consecutivedayswithevaluationateachmeeting, results were obtained, namelygradesShortPortable Mental Status Questionnaire(SMPSQ) 5, namelymildimpairmentofintellectualfunctionandMini Mental State Exam (MMSE) 20, namelythereis a slightdisturbance in cognitivefunction.
Conclusion:Brainexercisecansignificantlyaffectcognitive status in theelderlywithdementia.
