Abstract
Breast cancer is a chronic and deadly disease that can affect a person's physical, psychological and social outcomes. Someone who has just been diagnosed with breast cancer will experience anxiety and stress. One effort to deal with stress is to use coping mechanisms. Coping mechanisms are divided into 3 types, namely, problem-focused coping, emotion-focused coping, less useful/avoidant coping, with 14 sub-dimensions in them. The aim of this research is to determine the coping mechanisms used by breast cancer sufferers. The design of this research is non-experimental quantitative. The scale used is The Brief COPE. This research was conducted on 103 respondents with breast cancer using a subject sampling technique, namely accidental sampling. Data analysis uses descriptive statistical analysis. The research results showed that in the problem-focused coping dimension, respondents used the active learning sub-dimension, then in the emotion-focused coping dimension, respondents used the religion sub-dimension as their coping. Furthermore, in the less useful/avoidant coping dimension, respondents were in the high category of self-distraction.
