Abstract

New students who are migrating will face various challenges such as adapting to a new environment, cultural differences, language differences, and being far away from their parents, if not dealt with well, can result in stress, so they need personal growth initiative to be able to face various conditions abroad. Self-compassion is known to increase psychological well-being which can then influence personal growth initiatives. This research aims to determine the correlation between self-compassion and personal growth initiative in new students who have migrated with psychological well-being as a mediator. This research uses a quantitative correlational type of research. The sampling technique uses simple random sampling. The subjects were new students who had migrated aged 18-20 years with a total of 370 subjects. Based on research results, the mediator analysis test shows an estimate value of 0.033 and a p value of <.001, which means that psychological well-being can mediate the relationship between self-compassion and personal growth initiative. So it is important for new students who are abroad to be able to increase self-compassion so that their psychological well-being also increases and influences personal growth initiatives.
