Abstract

Practical activities can be useful in improving students' critical thinking skills, analysis skills, problem solving skills, and drawing conclusions in the material they are studying. Apart from that, with practical activities students can prove the truth regarding the material being studied. This research aims to find out whether practicum in a biology laboratory has a relationship with the critical and creative thinking abilities of class XI high school students in Tanjung Selor District. This research uses a quantitative approach with a correlational design to prove whether or not there is a relationship between practical work in the biology laboratory (X) and students' thinking abilities (Y). The population in this study were class XI high school students taking Natural Sciences (IPA) specialization classes in Tanjung Selor District, Bulungan Regency, North Kalimantan Province. This research uses two types of instruments, namely observation sheets and questionnaires which will be distributed to respondents and then the data will be tested using the simple linear regression method. The practicum variable in the laboratory (X) has a significance value of 0.042 > 0.05. This means that the independent variable of practicum in the laboratory has a positive effect on the dependent variable of students' ability to think critically and creatively. The results of this research state that there is a strong relationship (r = 0.227) and a positive direction between practicum in the Biology laboratory and the critical and creative thinking abilities of class XI high school students in Tanjung Selor sub-district, Bulungan Regency, North Kalimantan Province. In conclusion, the relationship between practicum in the biology laboratory and students' critical and creative thinking abilities has a positive direction
