Abstract
This research examines child rearing patterns by substitute parents for Indonesian
migrant workerfamilies, case studies in Godog Village, Laren District, Lamongan
Regency. This research was conducted to find out how child rearing patterns are
carried out by substitute parents in migrant worker families. This research method
uses a phenomenological type of research. Godog Village is a village located in
Laren District, Lamongan Regency, where Laren District is the 4th largest
contributor of migrant workers in Lamongan Regency. With this phenomenon, the
people of Godog Village have become one of the largest contributors to Indonesian
Migrant Workers in Laren District. The majority of people in Godog Village work as
farmers, but with the phenomenonof erratic harvests and the younger generation
not being able to become farmers, they choose to migrate to Malaysia and become
Indonesian Migrant Workers. Data collection methods use observation, interviews
and documentation. The data analysistechnique usesthe analysis proposedby Smith
with the Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis model. To analyze this research,
researchers used Max Weber's social action theory. Where the parenting style that
should be carried out by parents is transferred to other people with certain
considerations to fulfill the parents' responsibilities towards their children, both in
the form of the child's emotional and psychologicalneeds which are able to support
the achievement of the child's goals based on the child's needs. From these findings,
the social action carried out by surrogate parents in Godog Village, Laren District,
Lamongan Regency uses the type of Instrumental Social Action, where surrogate
parentsmust fulfill the obligation to replace biological parents in fulfilling the
rights that should be obtained by a child who is far from parent.
