Abstract
Emergency cases in babies with respiratory disorders Respiratory Distress Syndrome (RDS) cause brain damage due to disruption of the oxygen system, causing hypoxia and can have very serious impacts on newborn babies (Sanchez et al., 2020a). Respiratory distress syndrome or respiratory emergencies can reach 14%. Based on data from the Central Java Health Service in 2015, the neonatal mortality rate was 10 per 1,000 live births, causing 33.1% of the occurrence of RDS respiratory distress syndrome (Oktaviawati et al., 2023).
The aim is to determine the effectiveness of monitoring respiration in babies with Respiratory Distress Syndrome (RDS).
Method:
This research uses a case study research strategy with non-probability sampling techniques. Data collection uses interviews, observation, physical examination, and documentation studies.
Results:
The results of this study showed that administering oxygen combined with the half-extension position was proven to reduce the shortness of breath felt by the patient and also increase oxygen levels in the blood. The diagnosis found in Respiratory Distress Syndrome (RDS) is impaired spontaneous ventilation and ineffective thermoregulation.
Conclusion:
It was found that administering oxygen and the half-extension position in patients with impaired spontaneous ventilation was proven to reduce shortness of breath/dyspnea and increase oxygen saturation.
