Abstract
s student teacher candidates, they must be free from misconceptions, conceptual understanding is
very necessary in learning and also in everyday life, if conceptual understanding is strong, students
can develop and understand higher concepts, the importance of analyzing misconceptions,
especially in biotechnology material. This study aims to analyze biotechnology misconceptions in
biology education students in the application of the STM model. This type of research includes a
qualitative descriptive research that serves to describe and describe the misconceptions that occur
in students. The sampling technique of this research is purposive sampling. Data collection
techniques used are pre-test and post-test. The research instrument used was a concept mastery
test equipped with confidence in the answers with an attitude scale. The research data analysis
technique used the CRI technique and the percentage level of misconceptions. The results of the
study found that students experienced misconceptions with the results of the pre-test analysis
showing 37,8 % in the medium category, while on the results of the post-test analysis students
experienced misconceptions by showing 55,2 % in the medium category on indicator.
