Abstract
Good academic performance allows students to develop important skills and knowledge in various fields with learning motivation having a very important role in the learning process, with high motivation it can help students to achieve achievements and with good learning motivation students will reduce the habit of using smartphones excessively. This research aims to determine the relationship between smartphone addiction and academic performance directly or indirectly through learning motivation. This research uses a quantitative approach, with a cross-sectional research design. The research sample was 230 students of MAN 1 Serang City, Banten Province, using purposive sampling technique. The measuring instruments used are the SAS-SV scale (10 items), APRS scale (19 items) and MSLQ scale (31 items). Data analysis used analyze regression Process Hayes Version 4.0 model 4 with the IBM SPSS version 25 for windows program. The results of statistical tests show that there is a negative and significant relationship between smartphone addiction and academic performance directly (β= -0.2169; p=0.000) or partially mediated by learning motivation (β= -0.4882; p=0.000; BootLLCCI= 0.2558; BootULCI=0.6439). This shows that the influence of smartphone addiction on academic performance occurs indirectly, partially mediated by learning motivation. The higher the student's smartphone addiction, the lower the student's learning motivation in improving academic performance.
