Abstract

The rise of social media has established digital comic strips as an alternative medium for conveying social criticism of the government through visual presentations that are satirical, humorous, and accessible to the public. One account that consistently delivers such criticism is the Instagram account @poliklitik. This study aims to describe the categories of social criticism directed at the government found in the comic strips of the @poliklitik Instagram account during the period of January–May 2025. The study employs a post-positivist paradigm with a qualitative approach and a descriptive research design, utilizing the qualitative content analysis method based on Eriyanto’s (2011) framework. The analysis was conducted through stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing and verification—following the Miles model—while the categorization of social criticism was based on Retnasih (2014), encompassing criticism regarding political and legal systems, the public economy, the national education system, cultural policies and bureaucratic morality, and the unethical behavior of public officials. The results indicate that all these categories of social criticism are present in @poliklitik’s comic strips, with the most dominant criticism directed at the national education system and the unethical behavior of public officials.
