Abstract

This research was conducted based on the importance of science learning that provides direct learning experiences for students. Science learning in elementary schools still tends to focus on delivering theoretical concepts, resulting in limited meaningful learning experiences. One effort that can be implemented is the application of a local wisdom-based science experiment method by utilizing the surrounding environment as a learning resource. This study aims to describe students’ learning experiences through the implementation of local wisdom-based science experiments viewed from factual, conceptual, and procedural aspects at SDN Ngaglik 01 Batu.
This research employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive research design. The research subjects consisted of a fifth-grade teacher and 23 fifth-grade students at SDN Ngaglik 01 Batu. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, with data validity confirmed through source and technique triangulation. The results showed that local wisdom-based science experiments were able to provide meaningful learning experiences through factual, conceptual, and procedural aspects. Students gained knowledge through direct observation of strawberry plants and the surrounding environment, were able to relate observation results to scientific concepts, and carried out experimental procedures systematically. These activities also developed students’ observation skills, collaboration, communication, and critical thinking skills.
Based on the research findings, it can be concluded that local wisdom-based science experiment methods are able to create meaningful, concrete, and contextual learning experiences. This method helps students understand science concepts through direct experiences that are relevant to their daily lives.
