Abstract
Smoking behavior remains a prevalent phenomenon among adolescents, particularly among students. One of the contributing factors to such behavior is peer conformity. Self-control is also recognized as a factor that can reduce the tendency for smoking behavior. The aim of this research is to determine the influence of peer conformity on smoking behavior among students, with self-control as a moderating variable. This quantitative study involved 225 vocational high school students in the Engineering Department in the Malang Regency. Research instruments included the Smoking Behavior Scale, Conformity Scale, and Brief Self-Control Scale (BSCS). The analysis technique employed was Moderated Regression Analysis using the PROCESS Hayes 26. The research results indicate a positive influence of peer conformity on smoking behavior among students (β=0,273; p=0,003). Self-control was also found to play a moderating role (β=-0,011; p=0,042) The self-control was identified as weakening the influence of peer conformity on smoking behavior among students. The impact of peer conformity on smoking behavior is more significant in students with weak self-control compared to those with strong self-control.
