Abstract
This study discusses how the words in the lyrics of the song "Mendarah" by Nadin Amizah can represent fatherlessness or the absence of a father figure in a child's life. This song was chosen because it can describe the emotional feelings of a child who feels the loss of the most important figure in his life, namely his father. The purpose of this study is to explain the representation of fatherlessness that can be displayed in the lyrics of the song "Mendarah" and understand how the fatherless condition is described through the signs that appear in the lyrics of the song. In this study, a qualitative approach was used with Ferdinand de Saussure's semiotic analysis method which looked at the relationship between signs, signifiers and signifiers as well as langue and parole. The results of this study show that the lyrics of the song "Mendarah" can represent the condition of a fatherless with the condition of a father who is no longer with and accompanies the growth and development of his child so that the child can feel various forms of emotional feelings such as longing, helplessness, emptiness, loss of direction, inner wounds and memories of a child towards his father figure who is still not lost even though his father is no longer present in his life. The lyrics of the song "Mendarah" show that media such as music can be used as a means of mass communication to convey messages to their listeners. In this context, Nadin Amizah conveys the condition of fatherlessness through a series of lyrics full of hidden meanings by describing the various emotional feelings of a child towards his father who is no longer with him.
