Abstract

Background: One of the problems that many adolesence feel and experience in general is caused by a lack of self-confidence among teenagers themselves. A high level of self-confidence makes individuals more competent in their social environment, whereas a low level of self-confidence causes social interactions and various stages of individual development to be hampered. The existence of obstacles in an individual's developmental stage can cause health problems if not resolved properly.
Method: This research is a literature study by looking for theoretical references that are relevant to the phenomenon or problem being studied. A total of 9 journals were found to meet the eligibility criteria and were used as research samples after going through a two-stage screening process. The journal portals used by researchers to search databases are Science Direct, PubMed, Proquest, Springer Link and Google Scholar.
Results: From the 9 journals studied, it shows that the factors that influence teenagers' self-confidence are self-concept, experience, appearance, social environment and social status.
Conclusion: Based on the 9 journals studied, in general the findings of this research conclude that there are two factors that influence teenagers' self-confidence, namely: internal factors and external factors. Internal factors consist of three parts, namely: self-concept, experience and appearance. Meanwhile, external factors consist of two parts, namely: social environment (parents, peers, teachers and trainers) and social status.
