Abstract
Indonesia was shocked by the emergence of controversial content with the sensitive issue of "Teachers Burden of the State" by Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani on Instagram. This study aims to determine how Gen Z perceives deepfake content studied on the content "Teachers Burden of the State" Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani on Instagram. This study uses communication psychology theory from Jerome S. Bruner's perception theory. The research method used is a descriptive qualitative approach. Data collection by conducting interviews with 6 research subjects. Data analysis uses an interactive model of data collection, grouping according to themes, presenting data, and drawing conclusions. From the results of the study, it was found that Gen Z's perception of deepfake content "Teachers Burden of the State" by Sri Mulyani that appeared on Instagram was formed through a process of selecting attention-grabbing stimuli (the explore algorithm and Instagram reels, controversial and sensational narratives, realistic visuals), an interpretation process based on experience and social values held (trusting statements delivered by Sri Mulyani, the image of the figure will be affected), and the process of checking through information verification activities (active and passive verification, the importance of verifying similar content). Deepfake technology, which is capable of generating virality, controversial narratives, realistic visuals and audio, plays a major role in shaping perceptions.
