Abstract
Music is no longer merely a medium of entertainment, but rather an instrument of mass communication capable of conveying reflective and spiritual messages through metaphorical lyrics. This study aims to discover and comprehensively describe the spiritual meaning contained in the lyrics of the song "Keangkuhanku" by the independent music group, Sore Ze Band.
This research employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive research design, grounded in an interpretative paradigm. Data collection was conducted through a document study technique, utilizing the text of the song lyrics as the primary unit of analysis. Data analysis was performed using Philipp Mayring's model of Qualitative Content Analysis, which consists of three systematic stages: summary, explication, and structuring. During the structuring stage, the categorization of spiritual meanings was analyzed using James W. Fowler's stages of faith theory as the analytical framework.
The results of the study indicate that the song lyrics represent a narrative of human spiritual evolution. This transformation begins with the individuative-reflective stage (first stanza), where the persona critically realizes that they are consumed by arrogance. This process progresses to the conjunctive faith stage (second and third stanzas), marked by surrender to God's forgiveness and the acceptance of the symbol of eternal life (heaven). The peak of spiritual maturity is evident in the universalizing faith stage (fourth stanza), where the orientation of prayer shifts from the personal ego to an inclusive empathy that pleads for the protection of all creation.
