Abstract
This study was initiated based on preliminary observations conducted at SMK Muhammadiyah 2 Kota Malang, which indicated that teachers of Islamic Religious Education and Character Building (PABP) had not fully optimized the use of available technological facilities, such as projectors, internet access, and audiovisual media, in the learning process. In addition, learning activities that relied heavily on lecture-based methods tended to result in lower student interest in learning. In contrast, the use of audio-visual media appeared to enhance student engagement, as reflected in students paying greater attention to the material, taking notes more seriously, and participating more actively during classroom activities. Therefore, this study aimed to examine the effect of audio-visual media on students' learning interest in Islamic Religious Education and Character Building (PABP) at SMK Muhammadiyah 2 Kota Malang. This study employed a quantitative approach with an associative research design. The population consisted of tenth-grade students at SMK Muhammadiyah 2 Kota Malang, while the sample comprised 64 students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using Likert-scale questionnaires and analyzed using simple linear regression with the assistance of SPSS software. The findings revealed that audio-visual media had a positive and significant effect on students' learning interest. This was indicated by a correlation coefficient (R) of 0.651, suggesting a strong relationship between the two variables. The coefficient of determination (R Square) value of 0.424 showed that 42.4% of the variance in students' learning interest could be explained by the use of audio-visual media, while the remaining 57.6% was influenced by other factors beyond the scope of this study. Furthermore, the ANOVA test produced an F-value of 45.610 with a significance level of 0.000 (<0.05), leading to the acceptance of the alternative hypothesis (Ha) and the rejection of the null hypothesis (H0). Therefore, it can be concluded that audio-visual media have a positive and significant effect on students' learning interest in PABP subjects at SMK Muhammadiyah 2 Kota Malang.
