Abstract
This study examines the effect of Work-Life Balance (WLB) and Organizational Support on Employee Performance, with Job Stress as a mediating variable, among employees of the Transportation Department (Dinas Perhubungan) of Malang Regency, Indonesia. A quantitative explanatory approach was employed, with primary data collected through structured questionnaires distributed to a proportionally selected sample from the total employee population. WLB was measured using indicators of time balance, involvement balance, and satisfaction balance; Organizational Support was measured through indicators of contribution valuation, well-being care, goal consideration, help availability, and responsiveness; Job Stress was assessed via task, role, interpersonal, structural, and leadership demands; while Employee Performance was measured through quality, quantity, timeliness, effectiveness, teamwork, and responsibility. Data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) via SmartPLS 4.0. The results show that WLB positively and significantly influences both employee performance and job stress. Organizational support also positively and significantly affects employee performance as well as job stress. Furthermore, job stress significantly predicts employee performance. Job stress was found to significantly mediate the relationship between WLB and employee performance, as well as the relationship between organizational support and employee performance. The research model successfully explains a substantial portion of the variance in both employee performance and job stress. These findings confirm the applicability of the Job Demands-Resources (JD-R) Model in a public-sector transportation context and provide practical implications for organizational policy development, particularly in promoting work-life balance and strengthening organizational support to effectively manage job stress toward optimal employee performance
