Abstract

This study aimed to develop a Big Book literacy medium for first-grade elementary school students. The development of this medium was motivated by students' low literacy skills and the limited availability of attractive and appropriate learning media for young learners. The Big Book was selected because of its large size, colorful illustrations, and easy-to-read text, which can increase students' interest and engagement in literacy learning activities.

This study employed the Research and Development (R&D) method using the ADDIE model, which consists of five stages: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The subjects of this study were first-grade elementary school students. Data were collected through observations, interviews, material expert validation questionnaires, media expert validation questionnaires, teacher response questionnaires, and student response questionnaires. The data were analyzed using descriptive quantitative and qualitative techniques.

The results showed that the developed Big Book literacy medium obtained a material expert validation score of 73.33%, categorized as feasible, and a media expert validation score of 87.5%, categorized as very feasible. The teacher response score reached 100%, which was categorized as very good, while the student response score was 85%, also categorized as very good. These findings indicate that the developed Big Book literacy medium is suitable for use in literacy learning for first-grade elementary school students and can enhance students' interest and participation in the learning process.
