Abstract

Blitar Batik SMEs are one of the developing batik centers and play an important role in improving the economy in Blitar. This research is based on the decline in employee performance indicated by the decline in productivity and quality of work results, which is thought to be influenced by suboptimal knowledge sharing practices and low employee competency. This study aims to examine the effect of knowledge sharing on employee performance with competency as a mediating variable. This study uses a quantitative approach with an explanatory research type. The population in this study were all 87 employees, with a saturated sampling technique. Data collection was carried out through an online questionnaire with a Likert scale. The data analysis method used is Partial Least Squares–Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) using SmartPLS 4 software Version 4.0.9.9. The results of the study indicate that: (1) knowledge sharing has a positive and significant effect on employee performance, (2) knowledge sharing has a positive and significant effect on competency, (3) competency has a positive and significant effect on employee performance, and (4) competency is able to mediate the effect of knowledge sharing on employee performance. These findings indicate that increased knowledge-sharing practices can enhance employee competency, ultimately impacting employee performance. Therefore, efforts are needed to encourage knowledge sharing and employee competency development to optimally improve performance.
