Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of training on employee performance, with work skills as a mediating variable, at PT Surya Hutani Jaya Santan District. The background of this research is based on the importance of improving employee performance, which needs to be optimized through effective training and continuous development of work skills. This study employs a quantitative approach with an explanatory research design aimed at explaining the relationships between variables. The population of this study consists of all 78 employees, all of whom were included as the sample using a saturated sampling technique. Data were collected through a questionnaire distributed via Google Forms using a Likert scale as the measurement instrument. The data analysis methods used include scale range analysis and Partial Least Squares–Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) with the assistance of SmartPLS 4 software version 4.0.9.9. The results indicate that (1) training has a positive and significant effect on employee performance, (2) training has a positive and significant effect on work skills, (3) work skills have a positive and significant effect on employee performance, and (4) work skills mediate the effect of training on employee performance. These findings indicate that effective and well-planned training can enhance work skills, which in turn have a direct impact on improving employee performance; therefore, the company needs to optimize the quality of training and the development of work skills in a more sustainable manner.
