Abstract

This study aims to describe the forms of students' tolerance attitudes, analyze the strategies employed by Civic Education (PPKn) teachers in instilling tolerance values, identify supporting and inhibiting factors, and explain teachers' efforts to overcome obstacles in fostering tolerance attitudes at SMP Negeri 1 Bolo. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. The research informants consisted of the principal, Civic Education teachers, guidance and counseling teachers, the vice principal for student affairs, and students. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The validity of the data was tested using source, method, and time triangulation.The results of the study indicate that students’ tolerance attitudes have begun to develop through mutual respect for opinions, cooperation, and the ability to respond positively to differences. However, intolerant behaviors such as verbal mockery and mild bullying were still found. The strategies implemented by Civic Education teachers included planning by integrating tolerance values into lesson plans, implementation through group discussions, role-playing, problem-solving, and project-based learning methods, as well as evaluation through observation and reflection. Supporting factors included the active role of teachers, school policies, and extracurricular activities, while inhibiting factors consisted of differences in students’ characteristics, the influence of the external environment, and limited instructional time. Efforts to overcome these obstacles were carried out through personal approaches, guidance and counseling services, collaboration with parents, and the habituation of positive behaviors within the school culture.
