Abstract

Inreality, student engagement in IPAS learning at the elementary school level is still not evenly distributed. Thisis issue duet to differences in students’abilities, interest, and learning needs that have not been fully accommodated through appropriate learning strategies. Therefore, a learning strategy that can accommodate these differences is needed, one of which is differentiated learning. This study aims to determine: (1) the implementation of differentiated learning strategies in IPAS learning for fourth grade students, (2) student engagement during the implementation of the strategy, and (3) the supporting and inhibiting factors in its implementation.
The study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive research type. The subjects of this study were fourth-grade teachers and students at SDN Punten 1 Kota Batu. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The validity of the data was ensured through source and technique triangulation.
The results show that the implementation of differentiated learning strategies has been carried out by adjusting learning based on students’ abilities, providing enrichment and remedial activities, and applying peer learning methods. Differentiation mainly emphasize the aspects of process and product, althoug it has not been fully optimized. Student engagement is categorized as fairly completing tasks, participating in discussion, and presenting their work, which reflects behavioral, emotional, and congnitive engagement.
Supporting factors include the use of student worksheets (LKPD), varied teaching methods, and a positive classroom atmosphere. The inhibiting factoristhe difference in students’ abilities, which affects the pace of learning. Therefore, differentiated learning plays an important role in improving student engagement, although it still needs to be optimized.
