Abstract
The advancement of social media as a public discussion space has increased significant changes in public engagement in political issues in the digital realm. One phenomenon that triggered public dynamics was the viral case of the anonymous account "Fufufafa" which was connected to Gibran Rakabuming Raka. The purpose of this study was to examine how internet users reacted to Gibran's statement in the YouTube video "Asked About the Fufufa Account, Gibran: Just Ask the Creator" from KOMPAS TV. The theoretical study in this study includes the concepts of public opinion, digital participation, and uses thematic analysis from Braun and Clarke. This research method uses an interpretive qualitative approach. Data were obtained from 72 comments collected within seven days after the video was uploaded. Data collection was carried out through automatic transcription using the YouTube data API. The data were then analyzed using six stages of thematic analysis by Braun and Clarke. The resulting themes were (1) Attacking Gibran personally, (2) Doubting capacity and communication, and (3) political polarization. These findings indicate that social media is not only a means of expressing opinions, but also a depiction of public criticism and political participation in the digital space.
