Abstract
Background: Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) is a degenerative joint disease characterized by cartilage damage, changes in joint structure, and pain that can limit functional activity. Pain is a primary complaint in KOA patients and can impact quality of life. Physiotherapy interventions are known to play a role in reducing pain, but their effectiveness can be influenced by the frequency of these interventions. Therefore, a study is needed to examine the relationship between the frequency of physiotherapy
interventions and pain reduction in KOA patients.
Objective: This study aimed to determine the relationship between the frequency of physiotherapy interventions and pain reduction in patients with knee osteoarthritis at Hasta Husada Surgical Hospital, Kepanjen.
Methods: This was a quantitative, observational, and analytical study with a cross
sectional design. The sample consisted of 30 knee osteoarthritis patients selected using a purposive sampling technique. The frequency of physiotherapy interventions was obtained from medical records, while pain levels were measured using a Visual Analog Scale (VAS). Data analysis was performed using the Spearman correlation test to
determine the relationship between the frequency of physiotherapy interventions and pain reduction.
Results: The average frequency of intervention was 3.03, and the average pain reduction was 2,07.. The normality test for the frequency of intervention variable showed a significance value of 0.001, while the pain reduction variable showed a significance value of 0.001. Both variables showed p = <0.05, indicating that they were not normally distributed. Therefore, the analysis of the relationship between the frequency of physiotherapy interventions and pain reduction in this study was conducted using the Spearman test. The Spearman test showed that both variables obtained p = <0.05, indicating that there was no statistically significant relationship between the frequency of physiotherapy interventions and pain reduction in patients with knee osteoarthritis.
