Abstract

Film, as a mass communication medium, has the power to convey social messages through audiovisual elements. One social issue frequently raised in films is patriarchal culture. The film "Yuni" (Yuni) represents the reality of patriarchal culture, which remains deeply rooted in Indonesian society, particularly in the lives of adolescent girls, through dialogue, scenes, and the social conflicts experienced by the main character. This study aims to determine how patriarchal culture is portrayed in the film "Yuni." The research method used is a qualitative approach with descriptive research and content analysis. Primary data were obtained from excerpts and dialogue in the film "Yuni," while secondary data came from books, scientific journals, and other sources relevant to the study of film and patriarchal culture.
The results show that the film "Yuni" conveys a strong critique of patriarchal culture, which still limits women's freedom to determine their own education, future, and life choices. This critique is conveyed through the social pressure Yuni experiences to accept marriage, despite her desire to continue her education. The film also shows how women are often positioned as those who must submit to the norms, traditions, and decisions of their environment. Furthermore, the transformation of the meaning of "Kitchen, Well, Mattress" is presented through visual symbolism and the conflicts experienced by the female characters, as a critique of social constructs that limit women's roles to the domestic sphere. The film also depicts Suci as a figure who encourages Yuni's courage and freedom of thought in determining her own life.
