Abstract

Background: Floods are a frequent disaster in Indonesia and have an impact on safety and educational activities, including vulnerable high school students. In Pagak District, repeated floods even paralyzed learning activities at SMA Negeri 1 Pagak. Although students have the potential to be agents of disaster risk reduction, their preparedness is still not optimal, so it needs to be studied to improve their ability to deal with flood disasters effectively.

Objective: This study aims to determine the level of preparedness of SMA Negeri 1 Pagak students in dealing with flood disasters.

Methods: This study uses a descriptive quantitative design. The research sample of 257 respondents was selected using stratified random sampling techniques based on grade level. Data collection was carried out using a disaster preparedness questionnaire that refers to the LIPI-UNESCO/ISDR parameters. The preparedness assessment is carried out by calculating the preparedness index which is then categorized into very ready, ready, almost ready, less ready, and not ready. The inclusion criteria in this study are active students in classes X, XI, and XII who are willing to become respondents. The data was analyzed using univariate analysis to describe the level of student preparedness.

Results: The results showed that the overall level of preparedness of students was in the category of almost ready (62.7%), with the domain of knowledge (88.4%), the domain of emergency response planning (55.2%), the domain of disaster warning systems (83.2%), and the domain of resource mobilization (11.4%).

Conclusion: Students of SMA Negeri 1 Pagak have preparedness in the category of being almost ready to deal with flood disasters, but it is not evenly distributed in all domains. It is necessary to increase simulation activities, training, and active involvement of students to strengthen overall preparedness so that it is not only on the aspect of knowledge but also on real actions.
